Clutch alignment tool

just got the clutch for the M, it came with a alignment tool. can anyone tell me how to use it? The alignment tool has no splines in the part that slides over the tranmission shaft, so how does it align the clutch? thanks for the help, Anthony

Slip the tool through the splines of the new clutch disc, and then insert the small end of the tool into the pilot bearing in the flywheel. Now you are ready to install the pressure plate.

The alignment tool takes the place of the transmission shaft.
 
Just as Rusty says to do it. All it does is hold the clutch disk in place so when you go to put the input shaft in it will fit. If the clutch disk is not lined up as it should be you can not put the 2 halve back together and many a clutch disk has been destroyed because of not have the disk lined up
 
Or you can put the bolts that attach the clutch to the flywheel after you pull the two tractor halves together.
 
Ok, that makes sense...so when I install the pressure plate I use 3 bolts in the plate and 3 bolts to compress the springs and when I put the engine in all I have to do is spin the disk to align with the splines of the transmission shaft, is that right? Thanks Rusty I appreciate the help!

No, if the tractor is split, you do not need to compress the pressure plate. Use all 6 bolts and bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel, and when all bolts are tight, remove that installation alignment tool and put it in your tool box. You are done with that tool.

Yes, the transmission input shaft MIGHT need to be rotated a SLIGHT amount for the splines to align with the clutch disc splines, but that can be done by putting the PTO in gear and then turning the PTO shaft by hand, OR, rotate the engine slightly by turning the fan. It will accomplish the same thing.

CNKS shared what I usually do. That is how I put the clutch in the KB5, since I did not have an alignment tool, nor did I have a spare input shaft. However, if you have a clutch tool, it is convenient.
