H axle question

The shorter rear axle on an H was standard correct? And the longer was an option. Did the long axles become standard at some point? I dont remember ever seeing or owning a Super with the shorties. All the regular Hs I have owned have been shorts. How about on the hundred series?

The long axles were optional on all of them, but depending on the area the tractors were shipped to, and what the tractors would be used for, the long axles may have been factory installed.

They also may be more common in certain areas depending on the crop that was popular in the area.

Long (100") axles were used for certain crops. My family raised sugar beets in 22" rows so needed them to be able to straddle 4 rows.
The longer axle was an option; factory or dealer installed.

Standard axle in a SH and the 2-1/2 inch axles in the 100 series were longer than a standard H axle. Around 4 inches or so on a side if I remember correct. They were still shorter than the special long axles. I'm thinking the 2-3/4 axle option for the 100 series was a lttle shorter than the 2-1/2 ones. Would need to measure to be sure. May just be a optical illusion because of the bigger diameter. Measured before but can't remember for sure now.

Thats what I was wondering . Whenever someone asks about the difference between an H and a SH I am always tempted to say the SH has longer axles but I have never known that as a fact. And yes, I am aware of the extra - long axle option , but I wasn t reffering to that so much. So Supers came standard with the longer ones correct ? I cannot recall ever seeing a hundred series with those stubby regular H axles either. Thanks ~ Mike

checked my answer some. Looks like the 100 series with the 2-3/4 axle option or attachment has longer axle housings and that may make the axle sticking out look shorter. Didn't think to measure how much the axle sticks out. Looks like the wheels can be set about 8 inches wider on a SH over a regular H.
