I have one of these sitting in my shed. It's an old LPG power unit. Can anyone tell me about one of these? Is it based off a tractor engine or is it way different and not related at all? Thanks for the help. DK

This engine was originally a truck engine, was not used in anything Farm Equipment. BD was for blue or black diamond, IH Truck also had SD silver diamond & RD red diamond. IH sold irrigation engines in certain areas thru truck dealers.

Sure they didn't use them in tractors and combines later? I ask because when my parents bought their farm Dad was looking at the neighbor's 806 LPG special and stated that was the same engine Grandpa had in the garbage trucks, I would assume he knew because he did a lot of the wrenching on the trucks.

The 806 gas and LP gas used the 301 which was based on the BD 264 truck engine. The BD 308 was used in IH trucks like a 170 and replacement for old K 7 etc. I never saw the BD 308 in any ag equipment in my 50 plus years of working on tractors and equip.

So would it bolt into say an 806? I know of a 806 gasser with a bad motor and I have this unit and it runs. Or are all the mountings different?

I am sure putting a BD 308 in a 806 would require extensive modifications. The whole block is larger, taller and different style mounting front and back from what I can remember. Been a long time since I even saw one.
