IH 404 Utility Hydrualic Problem

Was working good, but then 3pt started moving up slow. Drained hyd fluid and refilled and now it wont prime the pump, how does a guy go about doing this... it wont suck out of the reservoir up to the filter canister and wont build pressure. What can i do??
 
clay as a last resort put a little air pressure in the filler plug hole or check oil plug with the motor running at high idle be very careful it takes very little pressure but may take a minute or so in friendship gene bradley
 
Yes did filter. Does the 404 use the transmission cavity as a sump? If so, how does it get the fluid from the trans up to the feed / return lines? It seems like the feed line to the pump is up so high?? Is there a different reservoir? Where do you fill it up at? Thank you.
 
I"m not sure about the 404, but the 656 and 504 both have a pick up tube that goes from the oil filter back to the rear... if that tube gets a hole in it, mostly due to rust, it will suck air and cause problems with your three point and probably priming. I changed one on a 656 years back... might be a last check type deal because it"s a real pain to get to. Good luck with her.
 
clay yes the trans. diff. & hyd.are all together you see the problem the hyd. pump is higher than the oil level use hy-tran oil now other methods to bleed system get rear wheels as high as safe possible back up on something solid - curb -sidewalk or bank you can drive into a ditch but be careful run motor pretty high & work lift control up & down there is no screen on pickup tube in friendship gene bradley fill plug in front of seat only 1!
