D236/D282 fuel filter - missing a piece?

I changed out the fuel filters on a Farmall 460 Diesel this afternoon and I think I'm missing some pieces. When you set the filter down it there is a plate it seats on at the bottom but there is nothing at the top, it looks like the fuel would just flow into the cannister, over the top of the filter, and then down the center and out with all of the crud still in it. I've had a look on the CaseIH online parts book and didn't see anything. Am I missing something or just being paranoid? Thanks, Sam

You are missing something. It is a plate with a spring and o-ring in it and they normally have a spring clip on the bolt to hold it from falling off. Kind of made me think of a farmer customer we had that every time he changed his engine oil filter, the washer and spring got thrown away with the old filter. I think I replaced it more than a couple times for him. His memory was playing tricks on him about that stage of his life.

Thanks, it just didn't seem like it could work the way it is. Is there anywhere I can find a picture of what I'm looking for and do you have any suggestions as to where I could find these items? Thanks, Sam

Look in the 706 parts manual with the D- 282. It shows all the parts for the fuel filters and they are the same. I guess any old tractor or combine with that D-236- or D282 or D-301 would all be the same.
