What's the extra hood hole for?

That's what I thought it might be for but the ones I've seen are smaller, like on a WD-9 hood for instance. This hole is the same size as the exhaust hole. I knew that some of the Bs were distallate tractors though. Thanks!

Thats for gas you started on gas and closed the shutters when the temp came up you switched to the main tank which was Distillate fuel

Thanks for the info. Would that also explain the four bolt holes on the right side of the head? Two verticaly on the front quarter and two on the rear quarter. A coil was bolted to one of the rear holes but we removed that. Dad hadn't noticed the bolt holes or know what they were for. That may be where the gas tank bolted on at? I think the rear bolt holes are right below the hole in the hood.

Does this mean the hood is from an older tractor or did all the hoods have this hole so two types didn't have to be made?

there are 2 different hoods. Also, does your hood have the Deutz fasteners or the "J" hooks? Deutz is older, "J" hooks are later.

J hooks. Now that I look things over, I have a block from a 1945 tractor based on the serial number but the rest of the tractor may be a 1942. The casting code on the side of the torque tube is 8638 DL. L would mean 1942 right? I'll have to look at other parts on the rear end to see what the codes end with to be sure.

The blocks may have been swapped and the small fuel tank discarded.
