Super M live hyd christmas tree remote valve

I have a super m that I installed a live hydraulic kit on about two years ago. The tractor has a engine out of a 450, so I just used the hyd pump that came with the engine. I used the original IH christmas tree looking remote valve. This set up has worked great for the past two years until I noticed the pump was leaking. I had a parts 450, so I took the hyd pump off it and installed on this tractor. Got everything together and hooked it to the plow to see if it worked. After doing this, one of the hoses from the remote valve to the female pioneer couplers blew. The hose was in bad shape. Since the hose blew I got to wondering in this live hydraulic setup if there is a pressure relief valve somewhere? I hate the thought of going to all the work of putting this setup on and continue to have problems with it. Any help is appreciated, so thanks in advance.

Daniel - The Super M hyd system has a relief valve inside the hydraulic reservoir. If memory serves it relieves at about 1,300 psi.

Sounds like your remote hose failure was simply an aging hose letting go.

just a thought, if it was an early super m with a belly pump, and not the live pump set up, the relief valve was in the belly pump. does yours use the belly pump as the resevoir for hydraulic fluid?

The christmas tree valve does NOT have a relief valve in it.

If you have the Stage II hydraulic block under the gas tank, and it's plumbed properly, it has a relief valve built in.

However, if you added the live hydraulics to a Stage I Super M, either using the belly pump as a reservoir, or by adding your own tank, you do NOT have a relief valve in the system.

No relief valve is BAD NEWS. I've seen hydraulic filters get shot off like cannonballs, and I've seen Charlynn motors split in half due to no relief valve in the system.

Yes, this super m is a stage 1. I took the original belly pump and housing and done all the modifications needed to use it as the reservoir.

to get a relief valve in there, you would either need to plumb one in to the high pressure line going to the spool, then run the return from the valve (it looks like a pipe tee with 3 ports) back to the resevoir, or go with a new style spool valve that has a built in relief and adjust the pressure to match your system.

Thanks for the help guys. Dad and I looked through some of his accumalated parts and we came across a pressure relief valve. Got it put on last night and it seems to work great.
