I posted a message about a non start situation about 2 months ago. Here is the original posting:

Just pulled the distributor today. The teeth on the distributor look good. With the distributor out, I turned the engine over and the drive gear inside the housing is not turning. If I push on it, it will engage and spin, but will stop spinning eventually. It is looking like there is a spot, either on the distributor drive gear, or cam gear that has lost teeth. Is this a major job? Sounds like the front needs to come off to reach the gear.

Yep, pull the front cover. I also would pull the oil pan to retrieve the parts that are now in the pan.

Pull the gear that drives the dist it just mite bee the one thats stripped and not the cam gear. In the past ive found that the dist drive was stripped and nothing wrong with the cam.The screen will stop any metas parts from getting into the oil pump you could pull the pan and get them.

These gears look okay to me.
