New guy with a question about SA

Hi...I have been around this board for a while and have several
other tractors but I recently bought a Super A that was
somebody else"s project and I"m putting it back together the
best I can. The motor was completely torn apart and I"ve got it
back together up to the valve train. My question is...once you
slide the rocker shaft assembly down on the studs...is there a
washer that goes on and then a nut?...or what is the proper
order. I"ve looked in the I&T manual and even on CNH website
and can"t get a picture of the assembly order. Thanks for all
your help.

Hi Jason, Welcome to the forum, according to the parts book I have, (McComick Parts Catalog TC-39c), in the engine break down pics and part numbers, it has the stud,a 3/8" fine thread nut and 3/8" lock washer listed together.
There is also a washer listed for holding down the valve cover, I have replaced these washers on my tractor, they are copper and are still available as of last I bought them, bout 2 yrs. ago.

I haven't touched those parts in a while. I had thought there were flat washers, but the parts catalog doesn't list any, so evidently not. The catalog lists lock washers for the 2 long studs at each end. The short middle stud is a special case. Do NOT put a lock washer on it. More importantly, make sure you are using the correct stud. The stud is hollow in the lower end and there is a hole in the side that meets the hole from the hollow end. This hollow stud is the oil feed to the rocker arms. Do NOT substitute a plain stud or a bolt for the hollow stud. Also, go easy tightening the middle nut. The hollow stud is weaker than a solid one and easy to twist off.

Thanks for the replies. I went back and checked and it does have the hollow short stud in the center. Any other things I should watch for or look out for? I bought this thing a while back for 400.00. It had new back tires on it so I figured it couldn't go wrong at that price. It is a 1954 model with the c123 block and somebody had already put the 3.25 sleeves and pistons in it. But somebody had stolen the cultivators off the right hand side...so I have to figure out which ones match what I have and try to find a set that matches them.
