The Regular lives!

well, she runs. The carb still isn't right, but I only have a small seep in the radiator. A can of Bar's leak stopped that. Lot's more to do, but it appears my valve job was ok. Govenor doesn't respond well yet, I think it has goo in it. good news is, I got her up to temp, and now will work on the fine tuning.

Here's a video:

For those of you who haven't seen my previous posts, this is a 1928 Farmall Regular that I bought at an estate last year. I finally got her running after lots of TLC. It hadn't run since 1970 (or there abouts) according to the Grandaughter I bought it from.

Tom Fleming,

That sir, is sweet! Very nice.

Husband hopes to have our '31 running by next summer and maybe shoot a video of the first start up. I hope it blows a few perfect little smoke rings the first time.

Thanks all. I have to order the fan belt or cut/splice one of the F-20 belts I have on the shelf. I had the timing advanced all the way, but I may be a tad off. I need to either figure out what is going on with the carb or find someone who can work on these. I bought parts for it, and cleaned it out good, but this is the first one of these I have ever done, and no one around to coach me.

I have the original steel front and rear, but for now, the rubber works better for moving it around.

One thing for sure, I am pleased, and will continue to fix things on her. I wish I lived closer to a few of you. I can make an F-4 mag sing, and my F-20 anbd F-12 get right on it. This one, with the E4A and the Ensign design carb has me baffled a bit................

TomFleming,

Just curious, did you have the manifold redone... or did you find a reproduction source for them? It looks like a new manifold.

Husband is also curious, will you paint it or keep it rusty?

Sweetfeet, that is a used manifold I bought from a guy. I did clean it up a bit. My plan is to keep this old girl in her work clothes "as is". Of course, on parts I repair, I cannot keep the original look, but for some of the repairs, I have gone out of my way to find parts in similar condition.

Thanks again to all for the comments.

Awesome!

I like the plan to keep it "as is". IMO, Patina is under-appreciated.

I made a flat belt for a lathe by cutting a modern serpentine belt and lacing it together. Consider making one from a strip of heavy leather and lacing the ends. Would contribute to "the look".

I have a flat belt lacer, so making one from an F-20 belt is relatively easy. I just need to get the total length right and add 1/2" for the lacing.

Old girl confused me again this morning. Went out and she fired up on the first 1/4 revolution (as it should), ran for about 1 minute then started to cough and sputter and just quit. I don't have something quite right and I need to figure out what it is.................

TomFleming,

Really neat that she will remain rusty. We also did our best to buy only parts with the same "vintage" rust as is on our Regular. It is worth it. Have fun with it.
