I just recieved the steering rebuild kit to take the play out of the steering, but a little scared to take the plung on taking the front of my 140 apart.

Block it under the torque tube (bell housing) to remove weight with wooden cribbing. Take pictures before, and as you go along, more is better. Heavy things like axles and castings must be supported from the top (balanced). Drain fluids before opening hoses. Don't twist off bolts, they remove easiest when they still have heads on them!!! Follow the procedure. Jim

Jim is dead on with his advice,as usual.Biggest hassle you may find is pulling the steering arm.Once apart, check the keyway in the sector shaft for wear, along with the sector gear, not rare for that to be a source of excessive wear, and,of course, all bearings and bushings. Are your dowel pins still in place?? The two halves of the bolster housings still tight??Biggest thing I have found is oil leakage after repairs, may be a good application for corn head grease instead of gear oil,and not uncommon to find these packed full of regular gun grease.Be careful, and good luck with your repair job!!
