farmall f12 wont start...need help

Recently picked up a farmall f12 at an auction with a bad magneto according to the family having the sale. Took it off and had it rebuilt.. Problem is when we put it back on I may have gotten the wire mixed up because it just back fires and blows black smoke when I tried pull starting it...What is the order of the wires from top right of the magneto going clockwise in relation to the firing order on the side of the block..1342?Does the firing order the same as the piston number? so for example the spark plub wire on the magneto that has the 1 by it go the back cylinder closest to the seat? Had a guy stop over who knows a little bout them and kind of helped me get the magneto timed with the engine...we waited till the piston closest to the radiator was at TDC then made sure that the rotor that touched the spark plub wire was lined up...Did we do this right? Weve tried everything and not getting closer...thanks for the help

not sure about rotation. remove distributor cap and turn engine to see which way the rotor button turns. then, 1,3,4,2, on newer motors 1 is closest to the radiator, then 2, 3, 4,.

newer farmall models rotor button turns clockwise.

The cyclinders are numbered from front to rear --cyclinder closest to radiator is cyclinder #1. The wire by the "outlet" with a 1 by it goes to the front cyclinder.

Take the mag cover off and have someone crank the engine to make sure the direction that the distributor is turning. Then put the cover back on and insert the plug wires in the 1-3-4-2 order.

Don't feel bad, we all have had this problem at one time. Just ask someone with a diesel M.

A W-30 will "Run" with the plug wires in he reverse order -- not very well but it will run. At least mine did!

so the next one it hits is in the bottom right outlet of the magneto and the wire would go to the second cylinder back from the radiator? Am I understanding this right? Never been around an F12...just decided to own one for shits and giggles

If your No1 piston is at TDC on the compression
stroke and the rotor should be pointing to where you would install the No1 sparkplug wire. If the rotor rotates CW your No3 plug is next to be installed and it goes to No3 sparkplug, the next plug wire goes to No4 sparkplug and last goes to No2. Te engine should now start. Hal

2-1
4-3 As the rotor rotates CW.

NO,the second wire goes to #3 cyl. the third wire goes to #4 cyl. and the last wire goes to #2 cyl. the firing order to each cyl. is 1342 as it comes out of mag.from the 1st wire going clockwise. all these old 4 cyl. tractors have the same firing order not just the f 12. cant explain it any simpler.
