Remove gas tank from 1948 H Farmall

How do I remove the gas tank from Farmall H? I have removed the three nuts that secure the tank but the bolts on the tank are to long and hits the steering rod. Do I need to remove the steering rod and how is that done? Do I remove the rod forward through the steering worm gear? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Loosen up the one side of the universal joint, and loosen the set screw on the collar by the light tree, then slide it back till you can get the tank off.

just remember that tank is not lightly built

You can double nut the stud and take the studs out. Then the tank will slide out under the steering shaft.

If you"ll look at the steering wheel post, there might be a dent in it, where the tank flange meets. Apparently a lot of H"s had a slight design interference, the tank was just a little bit too long to fit so they just dented the post to git itin. Might be a tight fit. And that tank is real heavy, like Henry said. .

Thank you truckerlary and others for your replies to my question. You, truckerlary, came closest to answering my poorly worded question. But, I had no idea the bolts under the tank were studs and that is a great relief to know that. Now I think I am in business. Thanks again everyone for your replies.
