Installation of 504 power steering cylinder seal kit

I am attempting to install a seal kit in the power steering cylinder from my 504 utility. The kit comes with new style plastic seals for the cylinder end caps. Does any one know which way the new plastic seals should be installed? Lip inward or lip outward? See the pictures below of one of the end caps with the new seal.

I was TOLD at my Case-IH counter that the oil or grease or pressure should always be inside the seal, it should fill the inside, press inside and press that inner edge of the seal down onto / around the shaft.... and that sounds like it would be correct..

If there is a o ring & back up washer before the lip type seal, The lip on the press in seal would go out to work as a dust wiper.

My Case-IH dealer is about a mile away, I stopped in again on my way to town. The old experienced counter man veified what I said earlier; the open-side of the seal, the part that can be filled with grease or pressure oil, should face inboard. The grease or pressure will cause the seal to press inwards and grab onto the shaft. In other words, from outside, a person should see your top picture.

I believe you are right. I wanted to put the seal in like a normal oil seal (lip inwards) but that side of the outer metal rim is cut very square so it didn't look like it was going to go. I did a little internet detective work after I read your reply. Turns out it is exactly as you said--a wiper seal to keep debris from getting to the main seal which is an O-ring & back up washer. I pressed the seals in tonight--it's all good. Thanks for your help!
