My '48 Cub with a mag stopped running and I can only get a weak spark now and then.. everything looks good.. points, cap, wires. Any way to test the mag on the tractor? I pulled the top cover, and things look clean and rust free..Its 12vso it spins plenty fast.. What should my next move be? ( other than getting a used dist.!)

Hook up a temporary coil to the mag, and see if it starts and runs. If so, then the coil is bad in the mag. Just pull the wire out of the coil cover on the mag and put in the temporary coil. I ran a Cub like that for years.

Forgot to add you will need to make a couple wiring mods. Unhook the ground wire off the side of the mag, and run the negative wire from the coil to it. Then run a hot wire from the battery to the positive side of the coil. That is providing you have a negative ground system, if it is positive ground then reverse what I said above.

You could try a new condenser as they cost less than a coil. I would convert it to a distributor. Hal

the magneto was designed for slow cranking speed. the impulse coupling is designed to kick out at higher rpm, so 12 v dont do it any good by the fast cranking.
agree get a dist.
