Im looking at $250 for a full set of new head bolts...I was changing them because the motor is new and i figured "why not" but now im wondering if its worth the money...between the two motors I have one good set.

Do they stretch or fatigue over time? Im thinking im going to clean them all and pick the best 12 and 4 out of the lot....what you you guys think?

thanks, anthony

thats what i would do. when torqueing i can feel when a bolt is stretching . use never seize or copper coat on the studs when installing them.

Are those titanium alloy or something? Seems high for a set of high-strength bolts.

Or is it just that you are buying them from IH?

a friend of mine has made me believe that running the bolts in and out once or twice, is beneficial. this is true where you need accurate torque.

another makes a template of cardboard, cuts a hole that matches the bolt pattern, places bolts in corresponding hole and places same bolt back in same hole in head/block.

What engine? What are their dimensions? How are they marked? What"s the specified torque? Head bolts aren"t usually very special.

I reuse the old bolts if they look ok after being cleaned up.

Diameter, Thread Pitch (both ends are not the same) and length (two lengths I think) and go to McMasters Carr or Fasenall Jim

I am doing that on my MH44 after having 2 bolts strip out when torqued. The bolts for mine are not available from the dealer, you are getting off lucky.

ARP is a good source for rod bolts.
