Farmall 350 Eletrical problem

Its only happened twice but a real pain when it happened.

I very seldom use the lights on my tractor but the last two times I did it caused a strange electrical problem. Both times I drove the tractor to another farm and had the lights on due to it being close to dusk. I shut the tractor off for a while then tried to restart it - nothing. It was as if the battery were completely dead. The guages didn't move, the lights didn't work the starter didn't even click. Being in the middle of a field I had no way to check anything electrical. After waiting an hour it started and ran just fine.

Any ideas other than avoid using the lights?

The problem has nothing to do with the lights and everything to do with your main battery cables. You probably have a poor ground connection.

I agree with mkirsch and most likely a poor connection some place. It could also be a heat related thing as for the connection since you could have something that gets warm and that in turn causes things to expand and that causes bad connection

Next time it happens, with tractor in neutral. try shorting across the large batt terminal & the smaller wire going to the "s" terminal on the solenoid. Nothing here?? short across the 2 large terminals on the solenoid to see if the starter turns. If nothing happens in both cases, look for ground or batt terminal problems [loose/ corroded].
