Can anyone tell me what the J stands for in the serial # of my U-240 IH ? I think it denotes what clutch package it came with. its been a long time and I can't remember. the # is 1777....depending on what list you go by, its either a late 57 or the first tractor produced in the 1958 model year.

Much obliged, Rex....If I were to have installed an Auburn clutch would it work? This may be the source of my clutch woes as I can just about bet an Auburn unit was installed. If memory serves, a Rockwell clutch was an option as well.
Funny: My Dad and I both graduated from Coosa County High @ Rockford, Al. and he went to college @ Auburn University.

Not really sure because I have never worked on anything with an Auburn clutch, but knowing the way International did things back then I can not imagine anything being differant other than the clutch itself

I'm fairly sure that ALL replacement clutch packages today are of the Rockford specifications.
