I have one bad piston in my M Farmall. Is it possible to remove it along with the connecting rod from the bottom pan without removing the crankshaft? If there is clearence enough, this would save a lot of work by not removing the head; the valves and other pistons are in good shape. thanks for responding. Myron |

Don't think you will ever be able to remove it from the bottom, and even if you could, you'd never get it back in. |

| I don't believe you will be able to remove the piston from below nor is it advisable. even if you are replacing just one piston, you should remove the ring ridge and hone the cylinder for the new piston and rings. |

| if you want to take the piston out in one piece you better take the head off and take it out the top. |

| no, do it properly from the top. this way you can inspect the other pistons also , and how do you know you have 1 bad piston? have you run a compression check? have blow by? the cyl. will need to be honed also. and also will be able to see condition of valves when head is off. it only takes less than an hr. to remove head . |

| The answer is yes. You can replace the sleeves and pistons without taking out the crankshaft. I believe the last time I did that in 1999 I unbolted each connecting rod, rotated the crankshaft so that rod and piston were on the up stroke then tapped it out. |
