The steering and brakes quit in our 1086. I dont think the pump is down, the brakes got spongy and then the steering quit.

There is probably an air leak in the intake to the MCV pump. Over filling the system by 5 gallons will fix it until you take it apart for something else. If this works (commonly does) you are good to go. If it still doesn"t work, the MCV valve or other MCV components may be at fault. Jim

I already overfilled it by 5 gallons and changed the filter before I posted. It Has no hydraulic functions, neither pump is working, the steeriong brakes TA pump or the hydraulic lift pump. I did not try the pto. I have worked on these tractors alot but necer encountered this before. I have replaced seals in the steering/ brake pump before when just the steering and brakes quit, this time I have no hydraulics of anykind.

The PTO check is to verify that the shaft is turning. If the PTO still works the problem would most likely be oil related. No PTO and no hydraulics would indicate a mechanical problem with the drive, most likely the splines on the pressure plate hub and IPTO input gear. That usually makes noise at least for a little while. Having he rivets shear out of the hub will be silent. By removing the cover under the clutch you can see the hub and the front of the IPTO gear.
