Ended up buying the whole 1086 instead of just the pto!

Mr. Owen Aaland has been very helpful to me in this forum, explaining how to swap the pto from a 1086 to my 1586. Problem is, the guy that was parting out his 1086 made me an offer I could not refuse on the whole 1086, and I bought it outright for parts. What's the problem? I put a battery in it for kicks, and it started! I then tried to drive it, only problem, apparently the pilot bearing is seized up. I can drive it if I get it on an incline and slip it into gear, otherwise, the gears grind when I push in the clutch with the engine running. Would it hurt to drive it in my pasture in a high gear with the clutch depressed in order to make the bearing release? The clutch cylinder seems to be doing its job. Suggestions, anyone? Thanks.

Well IF the pilot bearing is seized and causing the problem by not fixing the problem IF you do get it to break free it will take the end off the input and that is part of the T/A If it has one . But before you get all hipper why not just drop the plate off the bottom and look up in at the clutch and see what is going on . It could be that the throw out bearing seized and went thru the release arms., could be that the clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel and in this case i would stuff a three 1/4inch nusts under the release arms and unbolt the pressure plate and pop the disc loose.

Another possibility is that the damper assembly in the clutch disk has broken up and there are pieces wedging the disk to the flywheel. If you take the cover off as TV suggested you may see the levers are different heights on the pressure plate. That would be an indication of this type of problem.

if you get lucky the clutch disc is just stuck to the flywheel. pretty much anything else and you'll need to split it anyway for a new clutch assy.

When you are moving, and push the clutch in, does it stop or keep going? If it stops it could be just the clutch brake needs adjusted or replaced.

It keeps going. I am going to follow all the suggestions made in this forum, starting with the easiest and working my way to the hardest...hoping not to have to split the tractor, but either way, I got a heck of a deal, so I can't complain....
