Yelli523 08-19-2012 15:41:23 72.19.130.67 Report to Moderator	I have a 1951 Farmall M that was pull started and running 2 weeks ago but now I can"t keep it going. I got the starter fixed and the thing fires up right away but the minute I let my foot off the keyless start it quits. Any thoughts on where to look next? [Reply]   [No Email]

Often they're wired like that to bypass an external resistor. If so that's what's giving you spark, until you release the starter. Then the normal circuit that goes through the resistor should take over, but it sounds like you have a bad resistor or connection so no voltage to the coil unless it comes straight from the starter. Janicholson 08-19-2012 16:56:16 96.24.99.126 Report to Moderator	Re: Starter works but Farmall M won't stay running in reply to Yelli523, 08-19-2012 15:41:23   The wiring to the amp meter, and thus the ignition switch and lights (the one smaller wire on the big switch with big cables) might be on the starter side and not the battery side of that switches terminals. If it is, it will not have ignition when the starter is not turning. (it won't pull start either) the smaller wire must be on the battery cable side of that switch. Jim [Reply]  [No Email]
