Super M Lower Transmission Shaft Rear Bearing

Hello,

I removed the rear bearing from the lower transmission shaft and at the time did not realize that there was a "ridge" or raised portion on one side of the bearing. Would anyone be able to tell me which way the "ridge" or raised portion should be installed (front or back)?

Don't think it matters, some bearings IH used there didn't have what you call a ridge. You probably have a # 255 bearing. Most counter shafts are undercut a little at the shoulder where the bearing is placed on the shaft.
If not undercut just place the bearing ID with the most radius on the edge to the shoulder on the shaft. Bearing probably has a radius on both sides that slides on the shaft though. Front bearing locates the shaft in the housing so the rear bearing doesn't need to locate at a exact spot in the housing.
If you want it back the same, sometimes you can look for discoloring on the bearing and tell the side to shoulder or retaining ring.
