Stiff F-20 Clutch

A recent inquiry about a hand clutch for a F-20 mentioned that the clutch was very difficult to disengage. My 1937 F-20 has this same problem.

What can cause this? Does the pressure plate need replacing? Would an extension on the front clutch lever solve the problem.

I am about to tear it apart. What should I expect?

Had the same problem.

Remove teh bell housing and clutch from the tractor.

Clean out the mouse nest.

Disassemble the pressure plate and clean & paint the parts & pieces. Readjust the plate and fingers according to the book. Re-install and all will be well.

Not an overly complicated project. Just make sure you have the book handy for adjustment notes. Plan on an evening to disassemble. An evening to clean up & paint & dry(to reduce future rusting). An and evening to re-assemble.

Make sure the clutch inspection plate on the bottom is intact, and the timing mark hole on the right side of the bell housing is plugged with a screw-off soda bottle cap to prevent future critter entrances.
