F20 wide front serial designation

On my wide front F20N should there be a W at the end of the serial number to signify a factory wide front?
 
No, wide front axle was an option. A vast majority were tricycle. Except in modern time shows, I had never seen a wide front F-20.

ET, The F-20 factory original will have W after serial # on tag and frame. I have a 39" second owner original with W on both. All others were not original they were changed to wide front later on. oldiron29
 
Mine is a 37 with one piece front axel and it has no W on the tag. I bought it from the second owners son, his dad started farming with it after ww2. They never changed front ends.
 
Well I guess I have improved my farmall education today. What about F12's with wide fronts, should they have a w on the serial number if it was origionaly equiped?
 
ET, I do have a 38" F-14 wide front that was original steel wheel all around. I do not rember
if it has a W after the serial #. It is not close by so I can not check it right now.
I do think only the late F-20 had wide fronts and the W after the serial #. If it is per 38"

Is a 37 F20 considered a late or early f20. My serial number is 980239N
 
if an F-20 (or F-30) left the assembly line with a widefront, they were marked W in the serial number. its not to say that a dealer didnt install one before the tractor was delivered, its very possible.

as far as ive ever seen the ONLY optional front on an F-20 that DIDNT have a serial designation was the single front wheel. I have a single front 20 and its not designated. nothing in the parts book for a letter designation either, it only says what serial number that option was first available. ironically, the singl front, and adjustable widefront were both available at serial number FA127277 according to the parts book.
