I was wondering if a 504 with a wide front end and a loader would make a good yard tractor. I don"t want anything big and the loader work would be light. I have a 966 with a cab for bigger work but don"t want the loader on it, i want an open station loader tractor. What model of IH loader fit a 504? Is this a good machine?? Gas or Diesel. just searching my options. thanks guys. |

| I have a 504 Utility/Loader and i do like it. It certainly seems to handle most jobs on my 5 acres like moving snow, clearing some land, moving rocks (and more rocks) etc. My only complaint is its one s-l-o-w speed in reverse. |

| | I have a 504 with a 2000 IH loader that is really slick and handy. But you do have to use a little caution. Oops

| | Agreed. We had our 2001 loader on a 560 for years then on a 656 for another couple decades - both had narrow fronts. The only time the loader was taken off was when we were cultivating. With operators as young as 7 year olds neither was ever rolled. They both spent lots of hours loading manure out of barns and feedlots and silage out of the trench silos. |

| I have a 504 (gas narrow front)with an International 2001 loader. It's okay for occasional use but the tractor is kind of light; I always carry a scraper blade on the 3pt to offset the weight in front. It's also pretty slow to raise or tilt the bucket, maybe just my tractor. A tractor with hydrostatic transmission and high volume pump is a lot better. |

| Rule of thumb to follow for using a loader on a narrow front tractor: NEVER make a turn when you have bucket more than 2-3 feet off of the ground and NEVER drive more than a couple of feet when you can see under the bucket. This is from someone that has operated a loader on a narrow front tractor for more than 50 years and has yet to upset one. I'd never driven a wide-front tractor under a loader until I put a loader on my Super C about 5 years ago. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD) |
