End of an era

I just read Delta Reds post about the Start of IH, just wondering if anybody knew that Read brothers in Henry, Illinois started operartions today as part of Birkeys.. another long line of old family IH lost. Progress I guess.

Hey why worry they didn't build it right? I hear a lot of gripes about big companies and rich people and how it isn't fair that they make all that money. Many words have been written here on the demise if IH. The fact is IH made some poor decisions in engineering and business management and had a Union that "wanted their fair share" so IH is no longer, here we are what about 18 years after they merged and we're still seeing causalities or fall out from decisions of 50-60 years ago and it's not effecting just the privileged 1%. Not to sound like a broken record or the nnalert's propaganda officer but money isn't made in a vacuum. Look at the billions of dollars IH made while it existed, but then consider the trillions that the IH workers, Dealers and Farmers made off of the equipment they made and some are still making money on IH equipment. Another unrelated factor is a lot of these family stores the next generation doesn't want the family business, although it has been relaxed not to long ago if you wanted to take over the family business the tax code basically forced you to buy it from the government in taxes. Many young people made business decisions that there were better opportunities elsewhere. For years we in Agriculture have faced diminishing margins on the products we produce and our government advised us to "make it up on volume" now that same government wants more money, will they relax regulations and taxes and expand our economy or in effect "make it up in volume" Heck no they want more margin it's good for us but unthinkable for them, and yet we elect them.

No, you don't sound like the nnalert's propaganda officer at all

and yet we elect them.

Really... and then they appoint judges that decide that I can give as much money to political campaigns as Exxon. Show of hands... how many were worried that big corporations were not going to be allowed to contribute as much money to political campaigns as I can?

"Americans for prosperity"

Candidates bought and paid for by big business and big money. Things are only bound to get better. Wrap yourself up in the flag and religion and then screw the working class, and starve the poor while giving tax breaks to the rich and shipping jobs overseas

Do us all a favor and change the channel from FOX news

Realolman, very well said. I fail to understand why people can"t see this. It"s as obvious as the nose on your face.

I was thinking about this on the way home... and I felt that I should apologize. Not for my opinion, but for expressing it in a rather nasty way.

[b:618d7b1610]I just get so [i:618d7b1610]sick[/i:618d7b1610] of this political crap. This forum is a place where I would like to come and not hear it[/b:618d7b1610]

I apologize to you, RODGE in IL, wisbaker, and to everyone else who read what I wrote.

I don't think the OP meant this thread to have anything at all to do with politics, and I helped to hi-jack it.

I am sorry.

Hey y'all this was not meant to be political, just another old family business bought out by the big guys. They always supported the old stuff, especially lots of NOS stuff none of the big box CaseIH stores had. Geese its sad to see the old dealerships go, thats why they were there.

I agree Rodge, it is sad to see the old IH dealerships get bought out...a lot of good knowledge about the old stuff goes with the pervious owners when they are bought out and retire...I am fortunate, When Baugher Implement in Greenview, IL closed a few years back, I know on of the surviving owners very well and if I have any questions, can always call Russell, he was and still is a wealth of knowledge on the old IH stuff
