breaking a bead-the poorboy way

Seen a few post over the years asking for an easy way to break a bead. Dad showed me this trick several years ago. Works pretty good.
The tire on the old girl is getting pretty slick and needs replacing. Brother-in-law found a good used on for me.

I use a hilift jack to break beads. I have even done it on 10 ply combine tires. No matter what both ways work. Sure beats some other ways.

Ray I have tried something similar on another project but the bottle jack I had wouldn't work in the horizontal position.

lay it so that the pump is on the bottom.
that way the oil can flow to the pump.
this is a simple 40 year old bottle jack.

We would remove the rim with tire off the tractor and lay it down.

Then using either another tractor or a pickup and roll a wheel up onto the tire and turn into it to break the bead. It always amazed me we never destroyed a tire that way breaking down the side walls. Because they were nylon wrapped and not steel belted ?

The hardest part was putting fluid back into the darn thing... an all day job.
