Farmall M, I have the frame rails off, the three bolts in the bottem are out and the engine wont let loose...

Do I have to do something to the clutch from the inside or do I have to remove those two guide screws? any help is greatly appreciated!

Anthony

There is a Bolt inside the bell housing (remove the starter. There are also bolts on the top of the bell housing.
The threaded pins can be removed with a nut and a stack of washers sequentially used to get them out. (remove all bolts first, or something will break). Jim

Jim Ill look at that behind the starter again, I didnt thing there was a bolt back there ( i thought they were only on the H).

QUESTION: Im not understanding how to get the pins out, how is a nut and some washers going to back those pins out?

thanks Jim

The pins are locating non threaded into the housing. Put one washer (or 2) on the shank then some lube and a nut (clean the paint off the stud before using the nut) then tighten the nut and it will pull the pin out easily. Put them back in before tightening the main bolts. There are pictures in the parts diagram of the number of bolts. (it has been years since I took an M apart, there might not be a bolt hidden). Jim

Theres no bolt behind the starter, but there are 2 in the general area on the torque tube that need to come out. Should be in the middle of the tractor above the starter, would be hard to miss them.

"Three" bolts? There are FOUR on each side with the frame rails + two more half inch bolts top and center that come out the back side. I've never messed with the line up pins. They always come loose fine by themselves for me.

Yep, split mine a while back for a rear main seal. Not much to it.

The pins are used to align the engine when reinstalling. Leave them alone, you do not need to take them out. You can remove the 6 bolts and gently pry the engine loose by sliding or prying it carefully on those pins. I have split a Super A, C, Super H, Super M and 460 without removing those pins. They are not in the way.

I left mine in the MD as well. I did spin a nut on them just to break them free. It worked just fine. My setup looked a lot like the picture.
