F-12 Questions

My 12-year-old asked me three questions in rapid succession I didn't have the answers to. 1). Why are there two front wheels as opposed to a single front wheel? 2). What is the purpose of the three long spokes toward the inner diameter of the rear wheels? They have holes in their ends that appear to be for attaching something. 3). What is that T-shaped arm sticking out the front of all our Farmalls clamped on the steering shaft? Thanks, Fritz

Two wheels steer easier than a single wheel, due (I think) to the caster angle.

The tee shaped arm was for linkage on steerable front mounted cultivators. The cultivator gangs shifted to follow the front wheels.

Not getting a mental picture of the wheel spokes you're talking about, maybe for attaching wheel weights?

The extended spokes were to attach a sprocket to run mounted planters, lime spreaders, listers, etc. They also made a chain lift plow that was driven from the rear axle. I have a picture in a book I will try to scan and post. Hope it comes thru.
