my 1968 hydro utility gas 656 is charging fine and battery is fully charged. my amp light on dash is dimly blinking on and off all the time when tractor is running its not a bright light what could be causing this to happen what would be the fix. thanks

If your alternator is the original, it has an external Voltage regulator. It is possible with age, that it is showing some current through the light when running. It happens. There should be voltage on both leads to the light, resulting in no light when running. when stopped with the key on, the light gets grounded in the regulator, and has current will flow from the key through the light, to the VR.
If the charging voltage is close to 14.2, I would leave it as is. If it is less than 13.8 I would probably have the alt and VR checked. Most likely the VR. Jim

This is the wiring diagram for your warning light.

If your wiring is good you may have an alternator that is not working properly or a bad relay in the regulator. If the alternator is working properly you should have over 6 volts on the R terminal at the alternator. That voltage from the alternator closes the relay in the regulator and turns off the indicator light. When the relay closes it also provides battery voltage to the field windings in the alternator.

If the relay does not work the power to the alternator field coils is provided through the indicator lamp and the resistor at the regulator. Since that circuit provides less than battery voltage it can keep the alternator from reaching its full output.
