Gordo, I've seen here in west Mn going for anywhere from about 2900 to an asking price of 5K for a really nice one.

With fenders in place, it is just about impossible to do any kind of actual farm work with one of those old beaters because many of the implements of the day (buck sweeps, cultivators and loaders to name a few) either had to come across those axles or tie to 'em.

In addition, merely crawling off and on the tractor was an everlovin' "experience" as the 'step' was down on the fast hitch.

Fenders were the first things to come off and get thrown in the iron pile if the tractor had to work for a livin'.

Sounds to me like Allen better loose some weight, I have a 1963 with fenders that were only removed to put cultivator and mounted picker on, not having fenders on is just and accident waiting to happen, this tractor has over 10,000 hrs on it.

Dad bought a new H in 52. Second day, fenders were off, never put back on. He was a slender leggy guy. They are on a local 560 now days.

This was how it was with our tractors also, all had fenders which were removed only for certain jobs and then put back on afterwards. I like them on, looks nicer and gives you a hand rest. I dont feel they hinder getting on and off, but then I am an average size guy, a really big dude might have issues.

Nah, the couple of pictures I've seen of Allan, if he lost any weight he'd blow away. I'm not a very big person either, and I have to say that it's not all that much to climb on and off our Super C, 200, and M Farmalls, all with fenders. But, to some people it's not a big deal to swing your leg over the top or slid between the seat and the fenders. Just simply a matter of personal preference.

I never heard of fenders on an M or H until I started reading this forum about 1998. Having put about 5000 hours as a kid on an H, my first thought was what for? They are in the way and provide negligible protection. With cultivators they have to come off anyway. I have 2 C's one with, one without. If I ever restore the C I will probably put them on just because I have them, they are definitely in the way. I think a lot of the people on this forum are from states that required them. Not true in KS or TX where I grew up.

It went for 4700. Rear Firestones were 95%

I bet 95% of H's and M's sold didn't have fenders, and no one that worked them everyday put them on. I guess that could be considered dangerous, if you fall over in the seat. Millions of hours of operation on those models and I've never heard anyone claim they were necessary, much less wanted.

I guess I don't agree because ours was worked and we never took the fenders off except for the 234 picker. Our tractor was the big horse for a number of years 64-69, and it planted, disced, plowed, cultivated with a front-mount etc. I am 6'5 and have plenty of leg room and it is now set for 30" rows.

I would agree with fender comment... ours when just but on few years ago, sitting back in the shed. lol

they do make it much more difficult to get on the tractor.

Here in Michigan fenders were required on tractors when they were sold and most everyone kept their fenders on. Virtually ALL IH made intregal mounted implements could be mounted on Farmalls and the fenders left on...with the exception of corn pickers of course. I personally think a styled Farmall without it's fenders looks naked and incomplete. As far as the unstyled ones, it doesn't make much difference, they all look pretty crude anyway.

Fenders all went in the iron pile here too. I never knew the H had fenders till I got to the fair and saw them on other tractors. The MD lost them about the time we got it also. When we took the cab off our 1466 to go through the rear end, and transmission. The cab has not been put back on nor any fenders. The H still has the levers on for the cultivators a 4row front mount with rear track wipers.

I was there also. He got some good money for his stuff. Well taken care of. Was thinking of getting the Cub Cadet Mower with Loader, but toooo expensive.

My dad put 12,000 hours on a 560. Only time the fenders were off was when the picker was on.
When I look at a Farmall to buy if it doesn't have fenders I pass it up.
