I am putting new battery box and seat base on this SH I am working on. The 2-5/8" bolts in the front of box had the heads corroded off. I got one out with pipe wrench and soaking The second one only got worse so I welded a 3/4" nut to it and it came out and everything is fine. NOW the problem! there is 2 ears at rear of box that are to be attached under the heads of bolts on the rear of platform. The one that hold the PTO lever has wrung off. I soaked it for 2 hours and shook it with hammer blows for shock but when I thought it was moving , it was wringing. Whats best? try to dril it out and use easy out or try to weld 1/2" nut on the stub that is prottruding about 1/16' above the landing?

Weld the largest thickest washer that you can first then weld on the nut. Its easier to weld the stub to the washer then the nut plus the extra heat will help also

I hate easy outs ! All you end up with is a broken off easy out in your broken off bolt. And then you have real trouble. Almost impossible to drill then, only thing harder than an easy out is a Bankers heart ! (credit-Roger Welsch) Weld on a washer, grind it down some and then weld on a big nut. Work it back and forth while its still hot, I bet it will come out.

I'd heat the cover good and hot and then let it cool off. Then you can try the washer and nut trick. Then let that cool. NEVER try turning a hot bolt as they will twist off pretty easy when soft. Heated housing and cooler bolt yes. Hot bolt no.
