Farmall A goes down on coolant

If I use it for a day it goes down about quart, it doesn't leak and it doesn't go into the oil, where the heck is it going?

THanks!

If you fill the radiator,to the neck it will push some out as it warms up. This goes into the overflow pipe, and may not show much. They are supposed to be about two finger widths below the neck. If it is at that level, and goes down from there, it can be going into the combustion chamber. If the tractor makes light grey to white smoke, that is possibly the case. If it starts on 3 cyinders, then, after a bit runs on 4, it is pretty certain to be a leak into the combustion chamber. Causes are a bad head gasket, or cracked head. Gasket most likely. If you let it sit for 2 days, then remove the plugs and crank the engine (ign off) coolant will spray out of the leaking cylinder. Jim

if you completely fill the radiator it will run out the overflow tube as the water expands, your tractor uses a thermoflow cooling system and doesn't use a water pump or pressure cap, next time you use it if it's only a quart low don't add to it,run it then check after it cools a little it will probably be close to where you started

Well since it has no water pump and is a thermosphin (sp) system if you over fill the radiator yep it will do just as it is doing. As long as you get no water in the oil and you find that once it blows out the over filled and then stays at that level then your good to go.

Didn't have time to check anything out yet, had to use it the other day and it didn't want to start. Once I did get it going it was missing. So water is getting in a cylinder and getting the plug wet. Going to pull the head and see what it looks like. I'll have the head checked out and put a new head gasket on
