Been messing with a 46 H for a friend. It was an all fuel but the plumbing's gone for the little tank and it's run on gas only. As far as he knows, the carb hasn't been messed with, at least he's never messed with it. Problem is that if the temperature's under 50*F, it won't even try to start though it cranks OK. Above that, all's well and it runs good. What could the 50* issue be? Not that we've having temps that cold in Kansas right now . . . Thanks!

almost HAS to be the choke...

Pretty much all a choke is FOR - cold starting.

It richens the fuel mixture.

So, assuming the choke linkage is working properly - I'd pull the carb and take a look at the choke plate itself - and do a ridculously thorough cleaning of all the carb passages.

I think the problem will go away.
