Super C spark plugs

Gonna replace my plugs in my Super C and trying to decide which is the best way to go with them. Autolite 3116 or Champion copper tops? Or is there something better out there? Have a little fowling with them so I was just gonna open my gap a little more.

Thanks

I was raised with Champion Plugs(Dad sold them) My Super C ran two hours before they went bad, nothing but Autolites since. You do not need resistor plugs or wires either.

Increasing the spark gap on the plug is not going to do much to stop the fouling. You need to either remove the source of the deposits, could be fuel or oil, or change to a hotter heat range plug.

I believe a lot of the problems with Champion plugs comes from the changes in fuels, oils, and the way the tractor is used. With the end of leaded fuels, in order to combat fouling, Champion changed the recommendation for standard duty plugs from D15Y to D18Y. There are still some parts books out there still recommending D16 plug which was replaced by the D15Y about 50 years ago. If you are only using your tractor for light duty you probably need to use a D21 instead of the D18Y. If you cross the Autolite 3116 back to Champion it usually comes back as a replacement for the D18Y and/or D21.

All it gets used for is for driving around the field and taking kids for rides. Just VERY light work if any.

How do I know which is a hotter plug? I think you are right about that and that's what I am looking for.

THanks

For Champion the higher the number the hotter the plug. Forget all the crap and just go with the Autolite 3116.

Do you widen the gap on yours or just leave it tighter? Hear a lot that the Autolite are by far a better plug.

I hear that a hotter plug will just burn a hole in your piston.

I don't know, kind of like Ford or Chevy, which is better?
