I need to replace the power steering rotary valve on my farmall 504.It is not an orbiter valve and it is not a torque generating unit.I am not finding one any where. I have three questions: 1. can I use an orbiter pump even though it will not be connected to the steering shaft but will be connected to the power stering cylinder? 2. or,can I convert the tractor to a torque generating unit if I buy a torque generator? 3.or,can I convert it to manual steering? It looks like I will only need a rear steering shaft and support. Thanks for reading my message.

You have the early hydrostatic PS. It has a flow control valve, a piloted slave valve, and a two port directional control valve on the steering shaft.

You can get rid of the last two items and replace them with a four port "hand pump" found on later tractors. I did something similar on a 8000lb Clark forklift. It has its own PS pump from the factory. Works great. I got a brand new four port "hand pump" on eBay for $125. Surplus Sales, Lincoln, NE, has them at a higher price.

I have a 504 that didn't have PS. I put a Char-lynn torque generator down where the steering shaft enters the bolster. IH had the same system but placed the TG below the steering wheel. If you don't want to break into the hydraulic plumbing, install a A or C (or later) hydraulic pump on the engine. It's a bolt-on with your engine. A little bit of the right frame rail has to be ground away.

I also have a

This system is very simple. Requires a new steering shaft (Surplus Sales), four port "hand pump" (shown in pic), four hoses, steering cylinder (you already have it), and and a source of hyd power (dedicated pump or tractor hydraulics).

No, it is connected to the steering shaft going to the front wheels. It has hydraulic hoses going to a steering cylinder too. It has four hydraulic hoses connected to it. The tractor is a row crop. Thanks for trying to help.

The link I posted looks like it might be the same as the 56 series. Our 656 and 1256 have one similar to it. It's the one that requires a pilot control valve in addition. I wasn't sure if the 504 would have that one or not.
Sorry I wasn't so helpful.

I am glad you included a picture of your steering valve. Although my valve has 4 hydraulic ports and is directly connected to the steering shaft going to the front weels, I was wondering if I could use a valve like yours as an up grade to what I have.(which is not working)
