H and M swinging drawbars

Always wondered why H and M swinging drawbars are under the U drawbar rather than on top the U. It seems it would be stronger on top rather than have the 2 bolts holding the stay strap support the load.

Took mine off the H for some repair work and replaced it on top the U, believe it even looks better that way. Any reason for not using it that way? Joe

If you put the drawbar on top, and the roller underneath, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a roller, or even a swinging drawbar.

Under the drawbar works fine. The strap or roller only takes the whole load when pulling a trailer, or a heavy implement in the up position --- with tillage implements in the ground there is less load on it. The strap will eventually wear out but will take several thousand hours. The roller will last longer. I have been on this forum 13? years and have never seen your question before so it is not a problem.

another benefit of under,
on my Super H that must have lived a very hard life by
the wear on things,
The roller is worn completely thru,
the drawbar however is fine...except for its elongated hitch pin hole.
by looking at the wear on the roller, the drawbar would have worn away and failed if it was on top.
another roller and it's good for another 60

Might be stronger in regards of ability to support greater tongue loads but putting on top will change the draw bar height to center of pto shaft which otherwise perfectly matches sae recommended dimensions when installed under the u
