Did the Farmall Super M come from the assembly line with oil pressure zone gauge(red with white)? My tractor has the 0-75 oil pressure gauge. Can someone enlighted me on this subject????

Original gauges were red and green, but somewhere along the line, an aftermarket supplier got hold of a faded out original that was more or less PINK and WHITE, and made the faulty determination that the originals were ALL red and white, and that is all you can get today.

The 75# gauge is original I think to the 460, 560 series, but if you go to a Case-IH dealer and ask for an oil pressure gauge for an H or M, you will recieve the 75# gauge. Unless you are a stickler for originality, the newer style gauge is just fine.

(quoted from post at 20:05:05 08/06/12) The Red and Green is the temp guage original was Red AND WHITE.

I grew up driving a Farmall H that was built just a couple of years before I was born. I know what the original oil pressure gauge looked like.

Oil pressure gauges were red and green. RED was the danger zone. GREEN was the "good to go" zone. Over the years the sun would cause the GREEN to fade out and turn white, but the RED never did fade completely out.

Temperature gauges were also red and green, but in this case the green was the good to go zone, and the red was the danger zone.

I spent way to many years on the seat of a Farmall H, watching those gauges, to be convinced otherwise.

Answer me this: If all the aftermarket has made such a colossal error with the oil pressure gauge, why didn't they make the same mistake with the TEMPERATURE gauges?

The temperature gauge was made by the same company as the oil pressure gauge. Surely they used the same green ink on the temperature gauges as you say they used on the oil pressure gauges.

Why didn't the green ink fade to white on the temperature gauges?

It did!

Search back through the archives. There was a discussion on this very same subject some time back, and the general consensus was that the original oil pressure gauges were red and green.

Looked at the original operaters manuals for a 49 M, 52 SM and a SMTA. All said they should be running in the white zone. Will see if I have some older ones to check.

Ill let you search the archives, and please post a
link to it. The NOS gauge I bought from Webers 11
years ago came in a box dated 1942 and the gauge is
red and white.

Actually, the temperature gauge is segmented into 3 different zones. White is cold, green is run, and red is hot.

Found a older M operaters manual dated 1-31-1940. Exact words are, an oil pressure indicator shows whether or not engine is being properly lubricated. Under all operating conditions, the oil pressure of the engine should hold the indicator in the white section. Should the the indicator stop registering, stop the engine at once and inspect oil system to find the cause of failer. 41 H manual says the same.
Don't trust my memory 100% anymore. Thats why I looked even though I remember white.
To answer the original poster the SM came with a zone type gauge.

I have the original OP gauge for my M in my hand. It has a red and white indicator area with a light green needle. My replacement looks just like it with the wrong color needle. The needle on the old one looks to be the same color as the "run" section on the temp gauge.

0 to 75 became the replacement gauge from IH for a SM gas tractor and some other tractors starting in 1956.

You keep getting the temp guage mixed with the oil pressure guage no green on the oil pressure ga. I have replace many oil pressure guages and the old ones were no green

I was just pointing out to the original poster why his SM non diesel would have a 0 to 75 gauge on it. Starting in 1956 if a replacement gauge was purchased from IH they sold the 0 to 75 exept for the zone gauges still at dealers or in the parts system. In one of the other posts I said the zone gauge was original to a SM.
Looked at all the gauges I could find since the subject came up. See why there may be confusion about colors. Oil pressure gauge 41934DB used on a lot of non diesel M and SM. can be color faded. Some have the red almost faded to white and some look white all the way across. Yes even found one with the white faded a greenish color. Nice ones were still red and white. 41934DC that IH must have used in the late 1953 to 55 area have a good number faded to white all across and some with the red faded a light green. some still red and white. Gauge 362039R91 and 92 have a good bit that look white all across unless looking close. red mostly faded out. Some to a light pe green.
Have not checked into temp gauges but looked at some. Lot of used one are white on both sides of the red. can't say if from fading or some came that way without trying to check it out. All the guages are just used ones I looked at. What you find maybe different.
