i pulled the donor M out of the graveyard today (no bees!!!) and looked it over, im hoping that the machine shop tells me it is solid so i can do a major overhaul and put it in my M.

As I was looking it over I noticed a canister with what looks like another gas cap on the right side of the tractor just in front of the gas tank...Is this a distillate engine? Can I put it in my M gasser without any problem or modifications to have it run on straight gas? My wifes uncle said they used to start it from the small tank then switch over to the large tank back in the day but he used it just like a gasser, can anyone explain and tell me if I can use the engine in my M?

thanks guys, Anthony

If rebuilding it won't make any difference. Blocks are the same. Pistons and head would originaly be different than gas. Chances are its rebuilt with gasoline pistons and has a gasoline manifold 60 years later.

Well........that's a twenty dollar question. My guess would be that the tractor was originally a distilate burner. But that was 60-70 years ago. What may have been modified in the engine since then is unknown. That being said any low compression engine will run on gasoline with no modifications. So the answer to your question is Yes.

I can think of 2 different things it could be. One is a distillate engine or it could also be a MD as in gas start then switch over to diesel to run and have real power
