What is a GM? (maybe it is a typo?) Equal weight I might have to give it to the G. There is a lot more tire on it. As they sit advantage Alta.

In Nebraska test results, the Farmall SM is a clear winner over the John Deere G. G gasoline Nebraska test #383, 39.80 corrected belt hp, 36.01 corrected max drawbar hp, 3494 max lbs pull @ 2.07 mph. SM gasoline Nebraska test# 476, 48.56 corrected max belt hp, 44.24 corrected max drawbar hp, 5676 max lbs pull @ 2.43 mph.

The GM stood for G modified, John Deere had to call it that because of ww2 restrictions. Anyway that GM would have been built the same time as the ww2 M . John Deere built the 70 when that super MTA was built. Just so ya know!

Harold H is correct with the horsepower ratings from nebraska, but in the last 65 years since then, many of the G's have been overhauled with aluminum pistons. My 47 G, and many that I have had on the dynomometer make 54HP with the piston change. The change raises the compression from 4.21:1 up to 5.6:1.The low compression was to burn low cost fuel.

Thanks Cushman. I'm not sure why it happens, but a G can walk on an average M most of the time. You might like Farmalls and want to brag them up, but there are no gimmies at tractor pulls.
