I have posted a few pics of these two pieces individualy. After unloading the plow off the trailer I wanted to hook it up to the 9 to see what it looked like. It's big behind the 9 going to hopefully get the plow painted up this winter also think the 9 might get a clutch this winter and hydrolics on it that came off a doner 9 there is also a pic of the 4bottom Jd plow needs paint also that looks small compared to the NO16

Looks great. My set up is very similar (No. 70 5-14 plow & SWD-9). It's a good rig too. Do you plan to use yours?

I don't think a W-9 would pull 5 bottoms in our ground. Four bottoms would be about all it could handle.

depending on your soil type but my grandma's brother used to pull a 5 bottom #8 (he added an extra bottom to a 4 bottom) plow with his w9. It was very heavy hard plowing soil but he only used 1st gear and lots of added weights. Also he took the rear end out of the tractor ever few years. I have been told by one of my uncles that at one time he hooked the 4 bottom that came with the w9 and the 3 bottom for the M together and pulled 7 bottoms, it supposedly worked but was only done because someone told him he couldn't do it(which is why all of us do something stupid from time to time). to answer your question you could pull 5 bottoms especially if you have easy plowing soil.

If we are back on "it can't be done" it can be done in Millard, WI. There is a farmer that did it with a W-9.

You guys are right--it all depends on the soil. I do pull 5 bottoms with a Super WD-9 in 3rd gear. I have never tried a straight WD-9 on the plow, so I can't say for sure how it would handle it--probably okay in 2nd gear. The soil is very sandy and the plow does a great job. I have even added a crowfoot packer and small IH pony press drill to the set up to seed some rye at the same time. It really does work well in the sandy soil. The heavy land here shouldn't be plowed, you end up with a big lumpy mess if you do. Some guys tried it anyway--once.
