See "Blowby on new rebuild", below on this page at the moment. Most do it, it is not yet noticeable on my rebuilt Super A-- with use it gets worse. Unless it is using a lot of oil it is a non-factor.

I have a C that did the same thing. Ran fine, did not use significant oil. I rebuilt it when one of the o-rings at the bottom of the sleeve began leaking. Again the decision depends on how bad the smoke is, and how much oil it uses. The smoke is more noticeable on the SA, C, etc because it is more visible when coming through the cap. The H/M, etc have a draft tube at the side of the engine that is not noticed when sitting on the tractor.

if it's all the time when under load - steady blue smoke - then yes, most likely your cylinders have seen better days.

If it's occasional smoke here and there - don't even worry about it till it becomes a regular thing.

The nice thing about these engines is you really can pretty much run them into the ground to get the most out of them, since you're replacing the entire cylinder sleeve anyways when you rebuild them.

meant to add that most likely that occassional smoke is probably from oil coming down around the valve stems. It's really not a big deal.

all engines with a few years on em have some blow-by
ya can't see it on your old car because of the PCV, but it's there
If it's not using too much oil, has decent oil pressure,
and is not fouling plugs,
don't worry about it.
had one Farmall that 'puffed' so hard it felt like an air compressor
out the vent pipe, til I rebuilt it
(it still did its work well)
Had one Ford that was gassing me, so I tapped in a pipe nipple
in the vent tube, and plumbed it to the air cleaner intake until
I rebuilt it
