Carb question but it might be a dumb one

The other day I flooded my Super C when trying to start and notcied the gas coming out around the carb/manifold gasket. Not the weeping hole. I tried tightening it but it was tight as I could get it. I am gonna replace the gasket as soon as I get a chance.

Will that make it run differently if there is a small leak around that gasket? I'm thinking it might be sucking some air in but it runs great whe I am driving it.

I know it might seem dumb but I thought I would ask because I am not a mechanic and just a hobbyist.

It will be sucking in some air and therefor running slightly lean. Can't be sucking much or it wouldn't run well. You may want to readjust the mixture after you replace the gasket.

If that gasket is bad heck yes it can and will cause funny things to happen as for it running. It may run lean or it may run as if it has little to no gas since it is a vacuum leak and vacuum is what sucks the gas into the engine

When I pull it apart, and get a new gasket, should I put a gasket sealant on it? If so what kind is a good kind to use in that area?

THanks

I figured it might change a little bit. I believe you never know if you don't ask even if it is kind of a dumb question

You shouldnt need any sealer there, I never use any, if its rusted or burnt bad enough for sealer I would replace it or have it machined.

With the engine running spray carb cleaner or WD-40 where you saw the leak and see if the engine changes rpm or anything. If it doesn't change there isn't a leak there. When you flood stuff sometimes gas will run out places air doesn't come in.
