hydraulic oil for a cub lift

I just overhauled the lift pump and need to know if multi-weight (10w30) motor oil is ok instead of hydraulic oil? Is this pump self priming?

i used tractor hydraulic fluid [ 134] in mine when i went thru the hydraulics, [ 49 cub] this cub has a belly mower, and mows all summer and pushes snow when we have some in the winter plus pulls my log splitter and a few other jobs, no problems in a year and a half and its a pretty busy tractor

I filled it up with hydraulic oil and used the starter to spin the engine a few times to prime the pump before starting. After starting, I lowered the lift and topped off the fluid. I hope this stops the leaking. Thanks for the info.

Well, from the factory these used non-detergent SAE 20. Hytran or any good hydraulic oil will work well today. DO NOT use a detergent multivis.
