got my '49 cub working hard this summer, a friend of a friend of mine called him and tole me to come pick up his cub, just take it, this cub was fully restored and a parade piece, sadly it was parked in a heated garage when the little bear wildfire consumed his home, i havent seen the tractor yet so im not sure just what is left but im sure its bad, maybe i can salvage something from it to keep as spares for mine or maybe somebody needs something off it will let you know what there is left of it

title should have been wish i wasn't, i hate to get something under those circumstances, the man has lost everything

Friend of mine lost a 420 JD in a grass fire a few years ago. Sold it as scrap to a guy he knew who rebuilt it and it is now a show peice. This one had the tires and paint burned off and everything needed resealed, re-wired and hosed, plus tires of course, but when they opened it up, the fluids did not seem to be burned. This one was outside on dry grass... if yours was inside, it may have gotten a lot hotter. Same guy lost a '40 Ford coupe and a '69 Ford 428 Torino Cobra that were in his shop and they [u:f87643770a]were[/u:f87643770a] toast. However, the '40 was also rebuilt because it did not get water sprayed on it.

im going to just have to se what i find on this one, he said the wheels were bent, so it may be unsavable, but maybe some of its parts can be spares for mine, taking my winch truck and trailer after it in the am, figuring im going to have to actually pick it up, and set it on the trailer

Fire damage is a funny thing,so many variables, depending on how hot the Cub may have got.Big factor is to get things apart before everything seizes up.Likely all aluminum components are destroyed, but you may be surprised by what can be salvaged.Try to keep moisture out of everything as much as possible.I also have repaired/restored fire damaged tractors, but it can be a real challenge. No doubt other people there in the affected area have similar losses,a true tragedy. No looting to date?? Another possible fact of modern life,it seems-

not much looting, there is checkpoints you have to go thru to get in that area, checked in, and out, early on while the fire was still in full blaze, the boys in the national guard convinced a few people that looting was a real bad idea, on the looters part, 274 homes lost
