anybody got both a '06 and a '56?How do they compare?I may have a chance to buy a 'rag' of a 1206.It would be a good 'companion' for my 1256.With all the "hoopla" about the 1206,what about the 1256,does it count?

Got both. They are long retired from 6-16" and 6-18" plows respectivly. 56's might be slightly better tractors but nothing is more eye catching and iconic than a 1206. I learned to drive on this 1206.

From a mechanics standpoint, I never could figure the love of the 1206 as the 56 in a much nicer tractor. It was the 1206 when we started to have ring gear and pinion problems, axles breaking, fans coming out the side of the hood etc.

My 1206's would pull a 21 ft Krause disk,14 ft IH chisel, and a 24 ft IH field cultivator...Those DT-361's are strong engines..Mine were both turned up quite a bit..

I have a 1456 and of course it handled all of the above implements nicely..You cant go wrong with a 1206,1256,or 1456..

I know about the "mechanical differences",but I wondered about the Performance differences, fuel use ,etc.I know 1206 was rated 105,1256 rated 116.How hi have you guys turned them up to?I know of one 1256 turned to 180...

Set at 140-150 horses they will all burn close to the same amount of fuel...

According to Tractor Data they are about 6-7 HP difference in the 2 and stock they use just about the same amount of fuel.

I have a 1206, never been on a 1256. I kinda like that 1206.

Throttle lever, deck plate,pedals,turbo,361 to 407 motor,3 point, top lynk, little changes in the guage cluster.I think the ring gear and pinion had a higher speed ratio in the 1256 other wise not much difference.

The 1256 had an improved shifting set up and a little larger motor. The paint scheme on the 1206 is one of the sharpest and they usually will bring a few thousand more than the 1256.The 1456 is much rarer and sell for close to 1206.
