H front tire size

Need to replace front tires on H. Should I go with 5 50-16 or 6 00-16? Just got new rears and they are 12.4 = 38.

depends on what your doing with it 550 would look beter

Nothing heavy. Shows, raking hay, pulling hay wagons, etc.

I would go with the 5.50 unless you had a loader or anything heavy on the front.

Our 41 H never had anything but 6:00 on and it never had a loader from 1949 to 1982. The years we had it, supposedly before we got it it did have a loader. The Deeres orignally were the midjet 5:50 and when changed went to the 6:00 and 6:50, the 9 & 2N Fords have 6:00. I would go with the 6:00 as they will give you a smoother ride even in the hay fields. And they would also look better. And the rears were 12.4, orignal were the too small 10-38

5.50 vs 6.00 is splitting hairs, but I have never seen anything but 6.00.

5.50 on H, 6.00 on SH and M, 6.50 on SM

5:50 x 16 would be the correct size to use with the 12.4 x 38 rears.

With 12.4 tires the tractor will sit leveler with 550 tires if that matters. Most with 13.6 rears and 600 fronts are a little higher in the front.

I have 6.00x16 on my H with 12.4 rear tires, it looks OK.

My Farmall H had 6.00-16 car tyres on the front, which were old and looked awful. Before I put the cast iron front wheels on I ran it with 5.50-16 tyres. The M has 6.00-16. It is hard to see the difference, after all, they are only a ½" wider.
