Majic Paint IH Red -revisited

This topic has been kicked around a couple times and thought I would re-open floor on this one.

I will admit it is a very good match for color but ...

I am using a rattle can to do those odd little pieces and am not very impressed with the finish quality. It's been 4 weeks of drying and I am still able to peal and/or push a thumb nail into the paint surface.

My best assumption is that it will not dry with a hard surface. Looking around I can find thumb prints and gouge marks all over now. Trust it didn't take long to muddy up the surface reassembling things either.

My best advice is ... avoid this method if you wanting a good quality gloss finish.

I'm just glad I didn't go very far before finding this little quirk out. What I have done can be easily redone but face it ... once was bad enough and why create extra work.

Painfully I will be moving away from this specific product searching for Valspar once again. The local TSC wasn't carrying it anymore and is why I ended up here ... a disappointment.

I have used several brands and colors for small items and had no problem getting it to dry how long did you shake the can and was it primered first.

I believe the TSC Majc paint is the equivelent of the TSC regular Valspar tractor & Implement paint which I considered not of very good quality. I don't think any of the Majic paint will be near as good as the restoration quality Valspar that TSC they formerly sold.

Our local TSC has been clearing out the Valspar rattle cans, leaving only the Majic stuff. I bought a couple because they were cheap and the CIH dealer was out of spray Iron-Gard but I don't think I'd ever buy it again even in a pinch. I have yet to find a non-CIH spray in IH red that is anywhere near as good as the 2150 rattle cans.

I just did a little painting of some little parts today with some Majic brand paint and it was already to the tack stage within about 15-20 minutes, shot another coat and it seemed to tack up pretty quick also. most of the time paint takes a long time to cure if the humidity is too high or if you coat it too thick or too fast and do not give the coats time to flash in between coats and get tacky....
