CNH parts designation

In the parts section of caseih.com some of the parts description have [A], , or [C] after the description. What does that designate? I can't find anything that that would reference.

Also, how do you guys determine the length to make a hyd. hose? In tight areas where a 1/2" could make or break you. And do you tell the parts guy the distance needed between the couplings or take some off for the room used by the hose fittings?

Maybe not in the on-line catalogs, but in the original printed ones that column is for the appilcation explained in the notes at the bottom of the page or section.

Use a piece of discarded garden, or 5/8 in heater hose. Route it how you want it, cut it to length, measure it & wah-lah !!

You really need a hard copy of the parts manual. The a,b,c, etc can be for different versions of the same tractor, M vs MV for example, or for a tractor that has a certain option. I use those letters frequently.

IH/CNH/FIAT seem to have all different ideas on a way to list parts either on paper or computer. Some ways were just laughable some were ok. I could tell that whenever a new product was introduced sometimes drastic changes in parts jargon. They obviously had new people that hadnt a clue what they doing. When they came out with 8010 combine a section of parts was a grape basket. I retired in 2007 after 47 years of parts & service at dealer level. Trucks were another circus, IH insisted on propeller shafts, everybody else called them drive shafts.

Lucky you retired from the confusion.

This phone call recently happened at our dealership....

Customer; I'm looking over my bill here, why the &%@$ did he change the ignition switch?
Service Manager; Just a minute, let me bring it up.....
write up mentions a safety switch replacement.
Customer; I was billed for an IGNITION switch.
SM: Let me get Jim....
Me to the SM; That's just what the dipsticks at Fiat or the NH part of CNH or whoever rewrites the old parts books decided to call the clutch safety switch on his 3388. It's a "starter inhibitor" on the Euro Junk they make us sell.

Yup, the online catalogs leave out that far right column A B C. It is for different applications, like maybe a carburetor jet, may be column A for gasoline and B for distillate. It makes it tough to order correct parts sometimes.
